The Grand Scale: New Watercolors by Alexander Creswell
October 5th - November 4th 2006
Hirschl & Adler Modern is thrilled to present an exhibition of the largest classical watercolors on a single sheet that have been painted to date. The Grand Scale is our third solo show of work by Alexander Creswell, celebrated British watercolorist, a follow up to his highly successful 2001 and 2004 exhibitions Alexander Creswell: Reflections of New York 2001 and In Pursuit of Enlightenment: New Watercolors by Alexander Creswell. With twenty-four works - 12 watercolors and 12 preparatory sketches and maquettes - we follow Creswell through the streets and into the monuments of Europe and America and through the process of creating watercolors on a grand scale, the largest he has attempted in his career to date. It is about surface, light, detail, and form; subject becomes almost a mere vehicle.
