Hurricane Lamp, about 1825
English (metalwork: Birmingham)
Gilt and patinated bronze, with blown glass shade, frosted and painted
19 1/4 in. high
Although hurricane lamps were extremely popular during the Regency period in England and many must have been produced, extremely few have survived with their original shades. This unusually large example boasts a particularly fine base, as well as a shade decorated with a floral wreath and a bird.
