Belgian academic artist Jean Carolus worked in France from about 1855 to 1880, and was noted for his interior scenes from the eighteenth century. Carlous’s highly polished works evince an academic finish and are usually romantic subjects of women, either in groups enjoying tea or a music recital, or alone in romantic reverie,.
